Stewardship - Needed Now More Than Ever

When candidates become members of the Order of Eastern Star they are taught that a primary purpose of the organization is "to provide for the welfare of the wives, daughters, mothers, widows and sisters of Master Masons". This charge, as you would expect is accomplished in many ways including cards, prayers, donations and support in times of crisis. However our service to others does not stop at our chapter room door.

More than ever the members of Eastern Star realize the growing need in our communities. One needs only to read the paper or listen to the news to know that people are facing hardships which lead to need in their families. Many know only too well that a lost job or illness can put strain on the family very quickly.

As a result Thornville OES this year is monthly committing to gather nonperishable foods for donation to the local food bank located at the point of Church and Main Streets. In speaking with Julia Cooperrider, co-chair of the Thornville Food Pantry, it is abundantly clear that more and more area residents are relying on help locally.

Won't you join in our drive? As you shop remember the food bank when you see the two-for-one sales. Or if you would like OES to do the footwork for you, feel free to send a donation to our secretary, Shirley Gierhart, and mark "for food pantry purchases".
